Tuckahoe Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (THFH) is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization who since 1976 has 1,400 local affiliates in the U.S., has more than 70 national organizations in the world, who has collectively helped more than 1 million families – representing 5 million people- improve their living conditions.

Tuckahoe Habitat for Humanity formed its affiliation in 1994 in Caroline County as Caroline County Habitat for Humanity for the same purpose of providing decent and affordable housing for low to moderate income families who reside there. Five years ago, the organization name was changed to Tuckahoe Habitat for Humanity, as we increased our service area to include not only Caroline County, but also Queen Anne County. Since its beginning we have been involved in home construction, using a unique coalition of citizens, faith groups, businesses, and government to provide labor, money and materials. The most distinctive highlight of our program is that partner families provide much of the labor (investing hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity") - into building their homes and the homes of others, while corporate donors provide some financial resources and materials.  We offer affordable, low or no interest mortgages that go into a revolving fund that will produce resources to build additional house; we receive no profit for our homes.  The THFH has built 14 new houses and since 2011 have been engaged in weatherization and revitalization projects for low to moderate income homeowners of Caroline County completing over 50 homes.  In addition, to date we have also completed over $200,000 in weatherization projects in Queen Anne’s County.

In our effort to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from our community, and to make decent shelter a matter of consciousness and action.  “THFH” operate under the same philosophy as our parent organization (Habitat for Humanity International), whereby we do not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either, adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messages designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.  And we also have an open-door policy where we welcome anyone to work with us regardless of their race, religion, age, gender, and political views as long as they believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live to.
